Mary Jane Kline, born on July 16, 1876, in Good Hope Township, Hocking County, Ohio, lived with her parents until she was old enough to work outside of the home.  In the 1900 Federal Census she was found living in Columbus, Ohio, working as domestic help for the Walter and Jane Beebe family.  She was 23, single and named as a family servant.

She married Frederick Martin Bailey on June 16, 1901, and they settled on Buck Run Road in Good Hope Township.  Fred, the son of Charles Bailey and Tina Deiseler, was 28 when he married, and Mary Jane was 24. 

 Fred was a farmer and the couple had six children: Eva Eliza (1902-1989), Doretta (1904-1997), Clifford Wesley (1907-1999), Pansy Marie (1909-2002), Gertrude Juanita (1916 - 1995), and Rolland Frederick 1909-1992).

Frederick Bailey died first on May 10, 1951, in Columbus where he had been hospitalized.  His obituary was published in the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette, Lancaster, Ohio on May 11, 1951:

"Fred M. Bailey, 79, retired farmer of near Rockbridge, died early Thursday morning in the St. Francis Hospital, Columbus, where he had been a patient for six weeks.  He was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Sugar Grove  He is survived by his widow, Mary Jane, two sons: Clifford of Logan, Rt. 2, and Rolland of Rockbridge; four daughters, Miss Dora of the home, Mrs. Herschel Prevost  (Eva), Logan, Mrs. Floyd Kellenbarger (Pansy) Sugar Grove, and Mrs Richard Ruble, (Doretta), New Lexington; five grandchildren, and one brother Daniel of Logan..." Services were held in the Logan Funeral Home and he was buried at the Fairview Cemetery.

Mary Jane continued to live in her home and serve her family and community until she passed away on August 3, 1955, at home.  Her obituary appeared in the Logan Daily News on August 4, 1955 on page 2:

"MRS. F. M. BAILEY, 79, DIES AT ROCKBRIDGE

Mrs. Mary Jane Bailey, 79, widow of Fred M. Bailey, died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at her Rockbridge home.
A native of Hocking County, she was the daughter of Wesley and Dora Myers Kline.  She lived most of her life in Hocking County.

She was a member of the Sugar Grove Lutheran Church.  She is survived by two sons, Clifford Bailey of Logan and Rolland of Rockbridge; four daughters, Miss Dora Bailey of the home, Mrs. Hershel Prevost of Logan, Mrs. Floyd Kellenbarger of Sugar Grove and Mrs. Richard Ruble of Hebron; three sisters, Mrs. Caroline Nutter of Gore, Rt. 1, Mrs Minnie Schaffner of Basil and Miss Eliza Kline of Rockbridge, Rt. 2, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The body will be at Leonard Funeral HOme where friends may call tonight and where services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m.  The body will be taken to the residence Friday morning.  The Rev. Paul Klopfer will conduct the services.  Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery."
